Były czasy, gdy śmierć była oswojona. Zawsze przepełniona żalem, jednak znana i bliska. Ze ścian kościołów patrzyły na wiernych szkielety szalejące w dance macabre — tańcu śmierci — prowadząc korowód ludzi różnych stanów i przypominając: wszyscy jesteśmy równi w końcu życia. Te czasy minęły. My, ludzie XXI wieku, zakuliśmy się w zbroje materializmu, zatraciliśmy w obsesji zachowania młodości. Porzuciliśmy rytuały porządkujące żałoby naszych przodków. Wymazaliśmy śmierć z naszej codzienności tak, że z trudem sobie ją wyobrażamy i pojmujemy. Jednak koniec zaczyna się u początku i nie będzie żył pełnią życia ten, kto boi się ujrzeć ostatnią kartę swej historii. Więc unieś zasłonę swej przyłbicy, spójrz śmierci prosto w twarz, zaczerpnij tchu głęboko w płuca — i tańcz.
