Sol Doloroso

Moje prace zwykle wychodzą od historii i są precyzyjnie zbudowane z symboli i znaczeń. Jednak czasem, bardzo rzadko i zwykle, kiedy jestem bardzo zmęczona, przed oczami pojawia mi się gotowy obraz. Tak było z tą pracą — objawiła mi się na mgnienie oka i pozostawiła z pytaniem, o czym tak właściwie jest. Rysując myślałam o motywie Stabat Mater Dolorosa (stała matka bolejąca [pod krzyżem]). Zadałam sobie pytanie, nad czym może boleć Słońce — retoryczne oczywiście, bo tak wiele na tym świecie jest do opłakania. W ludowych opowieściach krzywda zadana i ignorowana przez ludzi często spotyka się ze współczuciem przyrody, która okazuje bohaterowi ukojenie lub roni łzy nad niesprawiedliwością, jaka go spotkała.

Tak więc mamy Słońce, symbol życia, szczęścia i siły witalnej, pogrążone w żalu nad światem, nad którym góruje. Bezradne wobec jego okrucieństwa. Słońce bolejące. Światło ogarnięte przez mrok.

My works usually begin with a story and are carefully constructed from symbols and meanings. But sometimes a complete image suddenly appears before my eyes. That was the case with this piece: it revealed itself in a fleeting instant and left me wondering what it was truly about. While drawing, I thought of the motif of Stabat Mater Dolorosa (“the sorrowful mother standing [by the cross]”). I asked myself what the Sun might grieve over — a rhetorical question, of course, for there is so much in this world to mourn. In folk tales, harm inflicted and ignored by people is often met with nature’s compassion: the hero is soothed, or the earth itself sheds tears over the
injustice.

And so we have the Sun — a symbol of life, joy, and vital force — immersed in sorrow for the world it reigns over. Helpless before its cruelty. The grieving Sun.
Light overcome by darkness.
